Character Interview: Marco from Obsession by Liz Bower

Character Interview

Hi Marco and welcome to Lou’s Luscious Book Blog. Thank you for agreeing to take part in my official rebrand/relaunch event.

Before I get down to asking you the questions how about you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Hi, Lou. Thank you for asking me to be a part of the relaunch event.

Tell you about me? Well, I’m a Scorpio, and I enjoy long walks in the woods. Just kidding, although I do enjoy going for a run as it clears my mind.

Now for the interview:

If you had a free day with no responsibilities and your only mission was to enjoy yourself, what would you do?
I’d spend the day with Jo. Probably do a bit of sketching, drawing is my passion. Jo is too of course 😉

What impression do you make on people when they first meet you? How about after they’ve known you for a while?
First impressions? I probably come across as a bit of geek although if you asked my dad, he’d say I was a dreamer. When people have known me for a while, I’d like to think they thought I was a good guy, someone you can have a laugh with. Or maybe they think that I’m just a pain the ass!

If you could spend the day with someone you admire (living or dead or imaginary), who would you pick?
My older brother Dominic. He’s been a huge influence on me. Dominic’s the kind of guy people look up to, that you can depend on. I’d like to be more like him.

Do you think you’ve turned out the way your parents expected?
Ha, ha. I have no idea. Maybe the way my mum expected especially now I’ve settled down with a ‘good woman’.

What’s the worst thing that’s happened in your life? What did you learn from it?
The worst thing was when I thought I’d lost Jo. That was…yeah. Taught me not to take anyone or anything for granted. You never know when it could all be taken away from you.

What would you like it to say on your tombstone?
I told you I was ill!

What are you most afraid of?
I’d love to say nothing. Don’t tell anyone but I’m scared of heights.

What is in your refrigerator right now?
Erm, leftovers my mum brought round and a couple of slices of last night’s pizza. I’m not much of a cook if you can’t tell!

Look at your feet. Describe what you see there. What are you wearing on your feet? (dress shoes, gym shoes, or none at all?)
I’m wearing a pair of white sports socks. After I’ve finished this, I’m off for a run.

When you think of your childhood kitchen, what smell do they associate with it? Why is that smell so resonant for you?
Garlic. And rosemary. I think my mum adds garlic to everything she cooks which is why her food always tastes delicious.

It’s Saturday at noon. What are you doing? Would you give me details? (Are you eating breakfast, what are you eating? Are you stretching out in the backyard to catch some sun, what kind of furniture are you on?)
I’m round at my sister’s house that Gabi and Jo share. I’m probably annoying Gabi without even trying; it’s a skill of mine. She sees a lot more of me than she used to or probably wants to.

You are getting ready for a night out. Where are you going? What are you wearing? Who will you be with?
There’s a pub I always go to with my mates from work that’s not far from the office. I’d be wearing my usual out of work clothes-jeans and a t-shirt with a funny slogan on it.

What is Liz like to work with?
Ha, ha love this question. I have to say I love working with her, right? Otherwise, she might kill me off in the next book! No seriously, she’s great to work with, but she gets frustrated with us when we try to do stuff that’s not in the plot.

Quick Fire Questions:

Favourite food & drink? My mum’s lasagna. Any of the local craft beers.
Favourite music? Depends on what mood I’m in. I’ll listen to anything.
Favourite book(s)? I love a good thriller. I’m a big fan of Wilbur Smith.
Favourite movie(s)? I don’t think I could choose one but I love Japanese anime.
Favourite sport/recreational activity? Is running a sport? I’d say running.
Favourite color? Blue.
Best way to spend a weekend? With Jo.
What would be your ideal pet(s)? I’d love a dog that could run with me, but it would be alone all day while I was at work which seems cruel.
If money was no object what vehicle would you love to own? A Maserati. Italian craftsmanship.

Just before we go how about telling us a little bit about the book that you’re in? What it’s about where we can find it? Maybe share the cover too; if you have it to hand?
I’m in Obsession by the lovely Liz Bower. I erm think the title might have a little something to do with how I’ve been obsessed with Jo since I saw her kiss a boy for the first time and it wasn’t me. Yeah, and a lot to do with him, but we don’t talk about that anymore. Anyway, I finally get my shit together in the book and show Jo how I feel. I just wish it hadn’t taken almost losing her for me to do it.

You can find my book on Amazon http://mybook.to/ObsessionLizBower, and you can read my story for free with Kindle Unlimited. And if you’re wondering what I look like then take a look at Jo and me on the cover. Hot, right? 😉

Author Interview: Jamie Summer

Author InterviewI want to take a moment to welcome you to Lou’s Luscious Book Blog and to thank you for agreeing to take part in my relaunch/rebrand event.

Before we get into the actual interview questions please tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a German native, living together with my husband and little son. Besides writing I love reading, dancing and watching way too many TV shows. Right now obsessing over Tom Hiddleston would also make that list. I love coffee, can’t function without it and tend to turn grumpy when I don’t have it.

General Questions:

  1. Favourite Movie? That’s hard……..I can’t choose. Jurassic World is high up there, along with all the Marvel movies.
  2. Favourite Music? Sunrise Avenue, P!nk and Kelly Clarkson
  3. Favourite TV Show/Series? Criminal Minds (and ten others)
  4. Do you enjoy reading? If so what do you like to read? Absolutely everything, but I tend to read fantasy most.
  5. Who is your favourite author? Why are there so many hard questions LOL? Colleen Hoover probably.
  6. What are you reading at the minute? Six books at the same time. Took up The Chosen by JR Ward again yesterday.
  7. What freaks you out or gives you the heebie-jeebies? Any kind of horror movies honestly.
  8. If you could meet any person living or dead who would you like to meet and why? Kelly Clarkson – she’s amazing, down-to-earth and seems sure approachable.

Quick Fire Questions:

  1. Sweet or Savoury? Savoury
  2. Chocolate or Vanilla? Vanilla
  3. Favourite Colour? Blue
  4. Favourite Animal? Dolphin
  5. Favourite Food? Chinese
  6. Favourite Drink? Apple water
  7. Good Guy or Bad Boy? Good guy

Writing Related Questions:

  1. What drew you to genre of books do you write? I ended up writing the kind of stories I love to read myself. YA fantasy and mysteries are amongst the books I devour, so it was only natural I would try my hand at that for me.
  2. Would you ever consider writing a different genre? If so which one? I would love to venture out. I have a few plans already and wanna get into paranormal and urban fantasy. Also plan on writing an actual romance.
  3. What made you want to write? I spent a lot of time fanfic writing with my best friend. I never expected to publish a book, but when the idea for my debut was born in a dream, I couldn’t get it out of my head. Only when I had it down on paper did I feel better. I haven’t stopped writing since.
  4. Do you set yourself daily targets when you’re writing? Not really. I try to use the limited time I have as best as I can.
  5. Do you have people to use as a sounding board? I do, which I’m very thankful for.
  6. Who is your favourite character to write or that you have written and why? I loved writing the relationship between the sisters Sky and June for Broken Jar Of Memories. I loved exploring a relationship I don’t have myself and felt deeply connected to them. Their characters were easy to write and just flowed along. They constantly kept me entertained.
  7. Are any of your characters based on real people? If so can you tell us which characters or people? There are a few that are based on people in my life. My best friend plays a big role as much as a few other people I give cameos. I love doing that.
  8. If any of your books were turned into a movie or tv series who would be your leading man/lady? I am really bad at this. However, I’d like to have someone kick ass like Jennifer Lawrence play Sophie of the Dalysia trilogy.
  9. Which book would you most like to see as said movie/tv series? My Dalysia trilogy.

And finally is there anything else that you would like us to know?

Spotlight time, please provide blurbs, covers & links to your books 🙂

On to the interview

I’ll start with the general questions:

Favourite Movie?

I love so many films. Today let’s say “Pan’s Labyrinth”.

Favourite Music?

Post punk and Goth – stuff like Virgin Prunes, Coil, Fields of the Nephilim and Siouxsie and the Banshees.

Favourite TV Show/Series?

Twin Peaks

Do you enjoy reading? If so what do you like to read?

I love reading. I’ll read horror, literary classics and contemporary fiction. Favourite authors include Clive Barker, Zadie Smith, Haruki Murakami and Iain Banks.

Who is your favourite author?

Of the ones above it’s hard to choose, but probably Clive Barker.

What are you reading at the minute?

Maya Angelou’s autobiography. I’m on book 3.

Favourite type of food and drink?

Sushi and coffee

Describe your perfect weekend?

Snuggled up with a pot of coffee and a great book, or walking through the woods in Autumn.

If you could be any age, what age would you be and why?

I actually like getting older, apart from the aches and pains.

Most embarrassing moment to date?

There are too many to count. A good friend used to say of me “For someone with a brain the size of a planet, you really say stupid things.”

When you’re not writing what do you like to do?

Reading. I’m sorry but it’s true.

When you were at school what did you want to be?

Journalist or author.

What freaks you out or gives you the heebie-jeebies?

I hate being too close to fireworks. Does that count?

Do you have any pet-peeves? Care to share any with us?

People who are too perfect.

Do you have any strange habits? Fancy sharing any?

I wear sunglasses outside in almost any weather.

Do you have any superstitions? What are they?

No.

What is your earliest memory, that you’re comfortable sharing?

Most of my early memories revolve around photos and I’m not sure how accurate they are. I do remember as a pre-teen trying to seduce, with erotic dance, the posters on my wall.

If you could go on vacation anywhere in the world, where would you like to go?

I want to visit Japan, the old and new capitals – Tokyo and Kyoto.

If you could meet any person living or dead who would you like to meet and why?

I’d love to properly meet Iain Banks. I saw one of his talks the year before he died, but I’d love to share a pint or two and a chat with him. Other than that I’d love to have met Emma Goldman.

If you were stranded on a desert island and had food and drink, what 5 things would you want with you and why?

Music – but unless there’s electricity I guess that would mean an acoustic guitar (I guess I’d learn to play). Books – at least a couple of novels and a book of poetry. A parasol and sunglasses – the sun and me aren’t the best of friends. Company, like a cat or dog or something.

Can you list 5 things (non-author) related that we may or may not already know about you?

I used to run a Gothic clothing company called Drac-in-a-Box. I need to live by water (sea or river) to feel content. I love cheezy horror movies. My hair is almost always messy. I love to dance.

Green

Favourite Animal?

Cat

Favourite Food?

Sushi

Favourite Drink?

Coffee

Good Guy or Bad Boy?

Bad girl.

Writing Related Questions

What drew you to genre of books do you write?

I’ve always loved horror. One of my fondest memories is watching Hammer Horror with my dad on a Friday evening. With horror there isn’t really a limit to what you can do or express, but I try to keep the stories very human at the same time.

Would you ever consider writing a different genre? If so which one?

I’d love to write literary fiction, but I always stray towards very dark places.

Do you have a certain place that you write? (Like a writing cave?) Or do you prefer a certain type of atmosphere? (like quiet or music in the background?)

I tend to write with a laptop on my lap on a comfy chair, or if I feel stuck I’ll take a notebook and pen to the woods.

Do You have a set writing routine? Will You share it?

Not really.

What made you want to write?

I find it the best way to express myself and I desperately want to be understood.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

A shower or a walk.

Do you outline the whole story before you begin writing or just roll with the flow?

Always with the flow.

Do you listen to music when you write? If yes do you have any particular favourites?

Sometimes, and it depends on what I’m writing. One of my favourites is Dead Can Dance.

How do you research when writing your books?

Mostly by reading non-fiction but also, when possible, by visiting a place.

Do you set yourself daily targets when you’re writing?

No.

Do you have people to use as a sounding board?

Yes. I have a beta reading team and also a couple of authors I chat with.

How do/did your family feel when your first book was published?

My dad was proud, the rest weren’t particularly impressed. They’d like it more if I made money, I think.

Where do you get your character inspiration from?

Myself and people I meet.

When you’re writing do the characters talk to you? Do they tell you what they want to happen?

Yes. I often dream about my characters too.

Who is your least favorite character to write or that you have written and why?

I disliked writing Paul from Starblood. I never managed to get under his skin.

Who is your favourite character to write or that you have written and why?

Freya, again from Starblood. She’s really out there.

Are any of your characters based on real people?

Most of them contain aspects of me, and I’m real, I think.

Can you share a snippet of your current WIP?

Venus Virus is in a very early stage so I don’t feel comfortable sharing that yet. How about a page from Psychonaut the Graphic novel, illustrated by Anna Prashkovich?

44

How important do you find reviews? And what do you make of negative ones?

I love reviews both of my work and books I’m considering buying. I always try to leave reviews. I don’t get upset about negative reviews. They are never nasty and I know not everyone will like what I write.

Do you or have you ever used events from your own life in your books? If so how close to the real event did you keep it?

Yes. One of the short stories in Broken Mirror and Other Morbid Tales was about something that happened when I was a teenager and then a revenge fantasy added on for good measure.

If you could collaborate with any author alive or dead who would it be & why?

Mary Shelley. She was a visionary and I would have loved to meet and write with her.

If any of your books were turned into a movie or tv series who would be your leading man/lady?

OMG! I have no idea.

Which book would you most like to see as said movie/tv series?

The Starblood Trilogy as a TV series to give it plenty of time for the characters to develop.

And finally is there anything else that you would like us to know?

I’ll be at The Darker Side of Fiction event in Peterborough on October 7th.

Spotlight time, please provide blurbs, covers & links to your books 🙂

Book Spotlight

Excerpt from The Starblood Trilogy by Carmilla Voiez.

StarbloodTrilogyLilith rests her face against the windowpane. They will not see her. Their eyes, mouths and hands sense only each other. Her own body grows moist and hot as she watches them caress each other. Hands cling, pull and grasp in movements more forceful and aggressive than in consensual couplings between man and woman. Lust drives them blindly into each other’s bodies, again and again.

Lilith places her hand against the glass. Oh, to be in there with them, and experience this passion first hand. Their love-making feels demonic, a step above human sex, as when Samael filled her, all those years ago. Their sex had a purpose: procreation, filling the world with demons to thwart His great work. The magicians’ poundings have no purpose other than pleasure and eradication: losing themselves in each other, desperate to forget the world around them, locked inside their own warm, safe place.

The boy is tiring. Or is he crying? He crawls beneath the sheets of the huge bed. The white-haired man plants kisses on his lips, but the boy shakes his head. Letting his lover sleep, the man sits naked on top of the covers, smiling. He glances up at Lilith then reaches for his glasses. Slowly, as if every muscle in his body has turned to gelatine, he pushes himself up and stumbles bow-legged towards the window. Their eyes meet and he reaches out his own hand and places it on the other side of the glass. She smiles at him as he reaches for the window latch with his other hand. The handle moves but the window doesn’t open. Pointing to the lock, he shrugs and motions to Lilith to meet him downstairs.

Sliding off the windowsill, she falls lightly to the ground, landing on her feet. Then, she crosses the perfect lawn to the front door.

Moments later, she steps inside. The man before her is different from the boy-magician. Sentences beginning and ending with ‘your will’ and ‘humble servant’ gush from him. Her thoughts drift upstairs to the pale body curled up in slumber in the room above them. Again she wonders why she feels drawn to him. He is nothing – an awkward, arrogant child. She heads towards the staircase.

‘Lilith,’ the white-haired man calls to her.

She turns to look at his thin, silk wrapped frame and weak, obsequious eyes. He is speaking again. The sound annoys her.

‘I felt it the moment you stepped from Chaos into Malkuth. The world trembled as your foot touched the floor. We all did. You have an army here, should you want it.’

What is he telling her? The words buzz around her ears like ravenous gnats. An army? What do I want that I might need an army? ‘An army.’

His eyes shine. ‘Yes, we want to change the world in your name. Stay here, please. Lead us into temptation.’

Lilith shakes her head. ‘You’re a liar and a misogynist. You want to follow because you want revolution, freedom and fire. If Samael or Asmodeus appeared beside me you would bow before them and, under their protection, spit at all I am and all of womankind. Why do you desire revolution when this world is already of your making?’

He bows his head, but not before she sees the hatred burning in his eyes.

‘You want power and glory,’ she says. ‘I see through you, into the black heart beating pointlessly in your skinny chest. You are nothing, good for nothing.’

‘I am nothing,’ he agrees. He kneels before her. ‘Please, make me something. Let me serve you. Do you want him? I can call him down. What do you want? I will get it for you.’

Lilith strides into the kitchen. Everything sparkles; it is like magic. Drawing a heavy butcher’s knife from a chrome block, she touches the tip and runs a finger along the blade.

‘Sharpen this,’ she tells the man hovering in the doorway.

He looks at her then sets to work, gathering a wand and leather strap from a drawer. The knife sings as it is sharpened. Closing her eyes, she lets its song fill her.

‘Knives. Wonderfully phallic, don’t you think?’ she says, more to herself than him.

‘Yes,’ he answers quickly. ‘People who carry knives are sexually repressed. It’s the act of penetration they crave.’ He blushes and turns away. ‘I’m sorry … here, it’s sharp now.’

She takes the blade from his extended hand. He does not meet her eyes. ‘You know what I did. Did you watch? Did it excite you?’

‘No … I didn’t watch,’ he stammers, shaking his head. ‘Baron … my guide … told me.’

‘Ahh.’ Losing interest, she turns on a tap. Water hisses into the sink, beating a frantic rhythm on the aluminium. She turns it off again and looks around the room, but her mind wanders upstairs. A smile makes her lips tremble then it grows into laughter. The man looks at her. His lips twitch in a silent prayer or chant. Is he afraid now? Good. She steps towards him, and he takes a step back then recovers himself.

‘I want to help you,’ he says. ‘We share the same dream: a world full of demons and magic, hedonism and despair.’

‘You will help me,’ she tells him. She pats the flat edge of the knife against her thigh. The movement attracts his attention, and his jaw drops.

‘I’m more valuable alive.’ He looks as though he wants to say more, but his words fail him.

Another step closer, she can hear his heart beating fast, the rhythm flawed; a beat skips and another echoes.

‘No! Please!’ he cries. ‘Satori, help me!’

His words are silenced by her fist. She smashes open his jaw with her punch. Terrified, he stares at her, his mouth hanging open. Tearing open her blouse, she reveals the swell of her left breast and pulls his gaping maw to her nipple.

‘Worship the terrible mother,’ she whispers in his ear. ‘For she gives you life and binds you to death.’

Excerpt from The Ballerina and the Revolutionary by Carmilla Voiez

Portraits loomed over my head. I shrank beneath the weight of their stares. My ears TheBallerinaandtheRevgrasped echoes of resentful whispers and I hung my head in shame. Ashamed of what? I couldn’t remember, not really, perhaps it was purely that I wasn’t more like her.

I faced her door, shaking with fear, expecting her to rush out at any moment, screaming my name or slapping my face. I concentrated on my breathing, trying in vain to calm down. I was grown up now. She couldn’t hurt me anymore.

Mastering my fear, I opened her bedroom door and inspected the empty room. Vivienne’s huge bed crouched in the corner like a monster ready to pounce. Shadows lingered at the edges, a dark audience to mother’s regular performances. The air smelt stale. It reeked of old perfume, sweat and sex.

I marched to the wardrobe and opened the door. Frills burst forth from its bowels. I moved soft, delicate fabrics and checked behind them. No one lurked there. I pulled back the curtains and opened a window. Sunlight poured through the smeared glass, bouncing off Vivienne’s full-length mirror and flooding the room.

Breathing slower now, I sheathed my knife and strolled to the bedroom door. Already the air smelled fresher. I turned around as I reached the hallway, glancing back at the rich fabrics and heavily patterned wallpaper – a true boudoir, a shrine to her pleasure. I sighed and moved to walk away when something caught my eye. Turning back to the room, I watched as the décor altered.

Subtly at first – the colour of the light-shade, a change of carpet then everything looked different. And there was Mother, centre stage, on the bed, naked, legs splayed and mounted by a huge man. Her flushed face fixed on me and I was a terrified ten-year-old girl once more.

‘What do you think you’re staring at?’ Vivienne demanded.

‘Maybe she wants to join in,’ the oily-voiced stranger suggested.

Author Interview

I want to take a moment to welcome you to Lou’s Luscious Book Blog and to thank you for agreeing to take part in my relaunch/rebrand event.

Before we get into the actual interview questions please tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m teeny, blonde, fiercely loyal and although I’m small, a huge protector – particularly towards my three kids! I have two books released and am currently struggling with a gazillion story lines desperate to be heard.

General Questions:

Favourite Movie?

Ooh this is hard… there are so many. Dirty Dancing, Pitch Perfect – Yep I’m that girl that loves singing and dancing to films. Plus THOR! The big hunk stole my heart years ago. (I frequently watch it with my son – not a chore!)

Favourite Music?

Listening to music is an absolute must for me, in the shower, car, when I’m cooking. You name it! I love most things current but have a soft spot for Adele, Ed Sheeran and Jon Bon Jovi!

Favourite TV Show/Series?

First answer has to be Friends! That programme has made me laugh through some broken hearted moments. More recently, Grey’s Anatomy, Walking Dead, and Homeland.

Describe your perfect weekend?

I’d be at the coast – The sun would be shining, I’d be listening to the waves crash against the sand. A bottle of beer would be in my hand and the kids and hubby by my side.

Most embarrassing moment to date?

Ooh there are a few :

Dropping a tray laden with food at secondary school (everyone clapped!).

Reading out loud at school and pronouncing virginal as virge-eye-nal! (Everyone laughed)

Once when I was reversing into a car parking space, I knocked the wing mirror on the car beside me (Which was a parked car I might add). I drove forward trying to straighten the car up and hit it again. I then made a final attempt at reversing into the space and hit the wing mirror again – I finally gave up and asked a work colleague who was watching me if he could get into my car and sort it out (I cried!)

Do you have any strange habits? Fancy sharing any?

Not sure I have any – although I’m sure the hubby could name a few if I asked him!

If you could go on vacation anywhere in the world, where would you like to go?

New York – I’ve been before but I’d love to go back and see EVERYTHING. In fact I’d love to live there for six months to really test the place out.

Can you list 5 things (non-author) related that we may or may not already know about you?

I’m a nurse.

When I was young, I fell out of a hotel window in Cornwall. My dad only just caught me by my ankle! I was literally hanging (from the 4th floor) staring down at the concrete path below.

I once won an award at secondary school for having the best smile but now it seems to have converted into a RBF (resting bitch face) so people who know me well, regularly ask what’s wrong – there’s nothing wrong it’s just my face! And people who don’t know me think I’m a miserable bitch!

I couldn’t think of anything else so I just asked my eldest daughter – she said that I like to keep my house clean and I moan at my kids for not picking up after themselves! Can’t see anything wrong with that lol

Quick Fire Questions:

Sweet or Savoury? Savoury

Chocolate or Vanilla? Chocolate

Favourite Colour? Any shade of purple

Favourite Animal? Cat

Favourite Food? Curry

Favourite Drink? Prosecco… no lager… no Prosecco… oh damn it!

Good Guy or Bad Boy? Bad Boy without a doubt!

Writing Related Questions:

Do you have a certain place that you write? (Like a writing cave?) Or do you prefer a certain type of atmosphere? (like quiet or music in the background?)

I have a room that I’ve kind of stuck my laptop in but I’m hoping next year I get to convert it into a pretty, peaceful writing cave! I need peace and quiet to write.

Do you have a set writing routine? Will you share it?

No, I wish. I’ve been struggling with time recently. I’m hoping the winter will have me hibernating on my days off, dreaming up lots of plots and twists.

What made you want to write?

Reading – Those books that you can’t put down. When you can’t stop and have to continue reading well into the night. Those are the kind of books I want to write.

Do you set yourself daily targets when you’re writing?

I set myself weekly targets when I first start writing a story but once the story and characters develop there’s no target as I tend to write, edit, delete, write, edit, delete… you get the idea.

Are any of your characters based on real people?

I always had the idea that Chris Hemsworth was my Zed (In Autumn’s Rise) but Reid (In Monday’s Promise), if I’m honest he’s not based on anyone, he is just Reid. It took me a long time to get over finishing his story, I actually missed him!

How important do you find reviews? And what do you make of negative ones?

Massively appreciate reviews, it’s what a lot of readers check out when looking at your books. When I first got a low star rating, I was like ‘What? Why?’ I need an explanation – it’s all a learning curve and it would be pretty boring if you knew everything, right?

If any of your books were turned into a movie or tv series who would be your leading man/lady?

Erm… let me think… oh yeah I don’t need to! Chris Hemsworth – can you imagine, I’d actually get to meet him!!

Finally is there anything else that you would like us to know? Maybe a little snippet of your current WIP, or latest release?

My current WIP is a romantic suspense based on a woman who is in an abusive relationship. I’m hoping for it to be out by the end of the year.

Also, I haven’t finished with the Haywater gang yet. The final story will be released next year. After that… watch this space x

Author Interview: Dianne Wolfenden

Today is the turn of Dianne Wolfenden. I was really looking forward to meeting Dianne at the #DarkerSideOfFiction2017 signing that took place in Peterborough at the weekend but unfortunately Dianne was unable to attend. I guess I’ll just have to wait for another day!

In today’s post Dianne has taken part in an interview so that we can all get to know her better. Dianne has kindly agreed to donate some giveaway prizes too.

Author Interview

An Interview With Dianne Wolfenden

Me: I want to take a moment to welcome you to Lou’s Luscious Book Blog and to thank you for agreeing to take part in my relaunch/rebrand event.

DM: Hi Lou, thanks for having me, I am looking forward to this.

Before we get into the actual interview questions please tell us a little bit about yourself?

Hi, my name is Dianne, and I write under DM Wolfenden.
I’m from the UK and work on the oil rigs in the North Sea. I would love a dog but because I am away for 3 weeks at a time I can’t have any pets.
My main passions are reading, walking, and going to the cinema.
I love tattoo’s and have quite a few.

I’ll start with the general questions:

Do you enjoy reading? If so what do you like to read?

Like most authors I love reading. I mainly read horror.

Who is your favourite author?

Stephen King

What are you reading at the minute?

A book by an Indie Author called Ghost Files

Favourite type of food and drink?

All the bad stuff, Pizza chocolate, cake. I do love a flavoured water though, that has to be good, right?

I think it is!!

Describe your perfect weekend?

Go out for a curry, a few drinks, catch a later movie and then a lie in the next morning

Do you have any pet-peeves? Care to share any with us?

I hate bad manners. It costs nothing to say please and thank you.

Do you have any strange habits? Fancy sharing any?

I like trying to find obscure facts that are of no benefit what so ever (is that weird?)

No, I don’t think it is that weird 🙂

When you’re not writing what do you like to do?

Watch movies

What is your earliest memory, that you’re comfortable sharing?

Of my cousin terrifying me, we were having spaghetti and he convinced me that my mother was feeding me worms.

LOL, that’s pretty funny!! (Sorry)

Next I’ve got some quick fire questions for you:

Sweet or Savoury? Sweet

Chocolate or Vanilla? Chocolate

Favourite Colour? Black

Favourite Animal? Dog

Favourite Food? Pizza

Favourite Drink? Latte

Good Guy or Bad Boy? Bad boy

Now for the writing related questions:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

I don’t, I just feel sorry for myself

Do you outline the whole story before you begin writing or just roll with the flow?

I’m a fly by the seat of your pants kind of girl.

Do you listen to music when you write? If yes do you have any particular favourites?

Sometimes, and it’s mainly Seether or Linkin Park

How do you research when writing your books?

Mostly the internet.

Do you have people to use as a sounding board?

I do have a couple of people who I know will be totally honest with me

How do/did your family feel when your first book was published?

So proud, but also not sure they would read anything I wrote at first, horror isn’t a family thing

When you’re writing do the characters talk to you? Do they tell you what they want to happen?

Not a lot, but it has happened in the past.

Finally is there anything else that would like us to know? Maybe a little snippet of you current WIP, or latest release?

My WIP is a story of a serial killer and his latest obsession: Jane

He ran his fingers along the spines of books as he walked, basking in the glory of this place. His eyes went from the higher rows of books to the alley in front of him and he stopped dead.

A jumper two sizes too big covered her boyish frame, her rich honey hair pushed back off her face and kept in place with an Alice band. Perfect pale complexion complimented by her deep pink lips. For a fleeting moment, the sands of time had frozen, and her beauty stole his heart, took his breath away and gave his life renewed purpose. She wasn’t like the others, she deserved his complete attention; he will have nothing but love for her. She would die with a pure soul, and that would be thanks to him. She was his destiny.
